Dua Lipa’s Personal Style 2024 (An Overview)
The it girl & pop star is back! Dua Lipa announced her new album, Radical Optimism, which will be released in early May 2024. In 2023, she had a good run promoting the Barbie movie, specifically her hit song, Dance the Night. I’m personally a big fan of Dua’s music (very excited for new music from her!), and when I am a fan of someone, I typically am really intrigued by their personal style choices. I definitely still love red carpet looks, but there is something so telling about someone’s personal style choices. I also love taking fashion inspo from my favorite celebs, and as a normal girlie, everyday style is my jam. Let’s look at Dua Lipa’s personal style!

STYLE ELEMENT 1: AESTHETIC MIXING
Oftentimes, mixing two or more aesthetics into one outfit is seen as good style. It just so happens that Dua is extremely good at mixing aesthetics in her outfits. While looking at photos of her recent looks, these are the word combinations that I wrote down:
Edginess + Elegance
Sporty + Sexy
Masculine + Feminine
She seems to wear things that naturally might not ‘go together’, but once in an outfit together, they look really cool & interesting! A few examples of this:
On The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Dua wore an oversized bright red button-down top (masculine vibe) with a bright red floral mini skirt (feminine vibe).
In a recent Instagram post, Dua wore a very 90s mini dress (girly vibe) with cowboy boots (western vibe).
In another recent Instagram post, Dua wore a Chanel tweed dress (elegant & classy vibe), but she chose the black version of the dress (feels a little edgy in black).
TRY IT YOURSELF: Try pairing two things from your closet that might not naturally go together. Might take some trial and error, but it will look so cool in the end!
STYLE ELEMENT 2: LONDON GIRL ENERGY
I’m not from London, however, as a lover of both London and fashion, I am well aware of this vibe. It mixes grunge elements like leather, classic pieces like a trench coat, and fun pieces like an oversized graphic tee. Think oversized, baggy, slightly masculine, a little sports influence, and cool accessories. My description is not all-encompassing, but hopefully, you get a better idea of what I’m talking about.
Some outfits that Dua has worn in the past that give me London Grunge Energy:
Gucci racing moto leather jacket + Oversized button-down (unbuttoned) + white tee + baggy blue jeans + Ugg Tazman shoes with colorful patches all over
Yellow Cardigan + white tee + baggy blue jeans + leather chunky boots
Graphic tee + blue jeans. + pointy toe leather shoes + trench coat + chunky gold jewelry
She also has been rocking studded bags recently, which fit into this category.
TRY IT YOURSELF: Pair an oversized patterned blazer with a graphic tee, baggy jeans, leather boots, and consider adding a baseball hat.
STYLE ELEMENT 3: CLASSIC COLORS & PIECES
Despite the earlier elements that I discussed, she leans on classic colors and clothing pieces to balance everything out. In many outfits, she sticks to neutrals and will add a pop of color. She wears a lot of black, white, and red. She also loves to wear great wardrobe essentials like white tees, blue jeans, cardigans, and leather jackets.
A recent example in her Training Season music video: Straight-leg jeans + white casual top + leather jacket + loafers
An example I mentioned above: Yellow Cardigan + white tee + baggy blue jeans + leather chunky boots
TRY IT YOURSELF: Pair a white tee and blue jeans with a pop of color cardigan or a leather jacket. Finish the look with a pair of loafers.
STYLE ELEMENT 4: Y2K
I think this was more of her summer aesthetic last year because I haven’t seen much of it lately (probably because it’s winter!). However, this element was especially present in her Versace collection, which Dua described as “the perfect summer collection”. Lots of little tops, mini dresses, bright colors, patterns, holographic pieces, and butterfly motifs.
A good example of this is from her Dazed cover from summer 2023: aqua blue chain mail mini skirt + light pink (maybe chain mail) criss-cross halter top + Versace chain belt
An example I mentioned above: her outfit on Jimmy Fallon features a bright red mini skirt.
I guess we will wait and see what her style will look like this summer!
